In other news I've been leaning heavily on paper and watercolors cause my ipad is too heavy right now for my hands.

So here are some various studies I did of Zhao Yunlan and HPS and then also two chars from the DMBJ (is that the right acronym? I'm not sure!)  Reunion verse.

I've included various stages if anyone is interested to see the before and then the finished :D

Zhao Yunlan pencil with some water color shadows

Zhao Yunlan with shadows and black added.

Completed Zhao Yunlan profile in watercolor from episode 23

This Shen Wei as HPS was my first return to watercolor medium so while it wasn't the best I still liked it :D

SHen Wei as Hei Pao Shi in purples and blues watercolor

I must confess I don't know the whole story of these two chars but I saw the picture and I had to draw it :D
HeiHua chars sketch with red highlights added

HeiHua with more shadows added over red highlights

I have plans to darken up the shadow areas but haven't yet cause work BOOO work BOO :D
HeiHua finished water color

So good! Your watercolors are so full of emotion, it's incredible.

These are amazing! I absolutely love seeing the works-in-progress and how they build toward the more complete versions. It reminds me of watching a Polaroid develop as the different colors fill in. Except 1000x cooler!!!

The interplay of light and shadow on ZYL's face is so intriguing from the initial sketch to how it all looks perfectly natural in the last version. And the things that stay the same, like the direction of his eyes and the shape of his lips, are kinda like ... um ... touchpoints? signposts? I dunno, but it's so cool to see how the basic shapes stay the same throughout, so that even the sketchiest* ZYL is recognizably ZYL.

*I mean, most minimally sketched. ZYL is *always* a bit sketchy. (points to icon) ;-)
